Ocho Rios is a small but important tourist destination located in the parish of St. Ann on Jamaica's north coast. The town was originally served by Masjid Al-Hikmah which was established in the year 2000, and was located in a rented accommodation at 86 Main Street Ocho Rios. However, the building was re-occupied by its owners and Masjid Al-Hikmah was no longer operational. In order to serve the needs of the Muslim community of St. Ann and visitors to the Island of Jamaica, in March 2013 Masjid Al-Hakeem was established at its present location at 138 Main Street, Ocho Rios.
Initially Masjid Al-Hakeem was operated from a temporary building whilst the Association went about the task of constructing the first purpose -built Masjid and community service facility. Alhamdulilah, the land which was donated is for the exclusive use of the Association in the cause of Allah, and is free of any financial incumbrances. The land now houses a functional structure which accommodates male and female worshippers as well as a bathroom and male wudu area. This functional stucture is being used by the Muslim community whilst the rest of the Masjid and Islamic Cultural Centre is under construction.
Masjid Al-Hakeem is therefore at a prime location providing every possible kind of Islamic service to the surrounding Islamic and local communities. The service it provides is also of benefit to the many tourists that come to the Island on a regular basis who stay in the nearby hotels, with friends and family or travel through on the various cruise ship vessels which visit the Island.
The Executive Management of Dar -Al-Muttaqeen Association Limited comprises four trustees and they are assisted by a Management Committee comprising members of the community with various skill sets and professions.
The primary objectives of the Association are to promote a sound and practical understanding of Islam, to serve the families by assisting them in the knowledge of how to apply the Holy Qur'an and authentic Sunnah in their everyday affairs and to try to revive and propagate the rich Islamic heritage of Jamacia, which has been buried for centuries.
